Kate is the lovely talent behind Magic! Magic Roses. It takes a lot of fashionist foo to make cut-off denim shorts, a 90s-era tank top, loafers, and a small leather purse to look stylish and carefree and perfect, but Kate does it. (It's the details, natch!)


Really great well-worn loafers with a small side buckle. I really dig these.

Zia - Wisconsin Street, SF

I think I really wanted her to say Amelia Earhart was her fashion inspiration. I love this outfit with its great details (look at those buttons on that pencil skirt) and for the way it reminds me of Sonia Rykiel's 2011 Resort Collection.

Coral - 18th Street, SF

"I love 1950s pin up and old fashioned ladies and menswear."

Notice how this is usually the material used for house dresses, but it's cut as a (much sexier) tube dress. I like the interplay of reality and expectations in this dress.


Coral highlights the dress by wearing punch leather pumps and no jewelry.

I am in love with the way she accessorizes with the primary color pallett of red (dress), yellow (purse), and blue (shoes).


It's been awhile since I've come across blue suede shoes, and these pumps are a great bright pair. They really add oomph to the outfit.

Amy - Cole Valley, SF

"In general, I would say: vintage with a darker twist. Art Nouveau maybe."

I'm big on cuts and fit. This dress is pretty simple, but with the color and that neckline and how great it looks on Amy, it's all good. Also, those earrings that add a touch of ethnic "other" are a great addition of pattern to an outfit that is otherwise solid color blocks.


Perfectly worn leather cowboy boots. Wouldn't mind a pair like these in my wardrobe.

Melanie - Valencia Street, SF

Halter top, tattoo iconography, beaded handbag, and bleached out white hair with a flower in it... What's not to love? Melanie is a feast for the eyes.

A designer once said (it may have been Isaac Mizrahi) and, of course, I'm summarizing: "If you got the hair and shoes right, everything else in-between will work-out." Might I proffer Len and Andrea as an example of this maxim? I mean how cute are their 'dos? Their clothes, cute well-fitting preppy influenced duds that call to mind classics (oxford shirt, French striped top, denim) with cute personalization, like that red heart.


And don't even get me started on their accessories (those sunglasses!) and shoes.

Okay, first thing: yes, A Clockwork Orange was totally mentioned during the interview portion of picture taking (and yes, later I thought of PeeWee Herman), moving along... I like how some women just rock menswear all the way.


Really good looking womens' shoes that fit the whole menswear thing without looking masculine. I, mean, check out that two-color leather on the oxfords and how on-trend are loafers now?
