Sydney - Dolores Street, SF

sydney"Generally the 90s, floral, Blossom, grunge rock. That's pretty much it."

I admire a woman that follows the ethos of wearing normal cute clothes to bike. Also, those over the knee socks are cute and practical.

Natalia - Dolores Street, SF

natalia2
"I'm inspired by indigenous people. Also, an artist from Venezuela, his name is Carlos Echevarria and his main character is Paulo. I got this [dress] from a store on Haight Street."

The fabric of her dress is very Hmong. Whomever made it used recycled fabric with hand embroidery to make the shift.

James - Dolores Street, SF

james19
"I pretty much wear whatever I can get for free from my friends."

I like how he looks put together, yet the knees on his pants are slashed (yes, I know this is a *thing*). I want to believe the shredded knees are diy. Also, is his hair Brylcreemed? I love the idea of Brylcreem, my Dad used to use it.

Amelia and Susanne - Dolores Street, SF

ameliasusanne
Amelia: "I don't know about this outfit, I just threw it together this morning, but usually I like late 70s punk stuff. So that pretty much shows through my style."
Susanne: "I kind of like simple stuff to be honest. Um, yeah."

I love how their clothes are well-cut and fit them so well. Also, Amelia's eggplant correction: ochre colored knit top with slacks that are gray and have rolled hems? So good. And check out Susanne's lovely perfect fit trench with the collar up, not to mention her velvet jeans. These ladies have understated style in spades.

Love their handbags. Susanne's bag is from Stockholm.

Jenette and Josh - Dolores Street, SF

jennettejosh
Jenette: "I would have to say my roommates, all my other friends, and thrift stores. And just liking to shop and being in San Francisco."
Josh: "Definitely thrift stores. It's what I find, it's what I get given."

I like the silhouettes of their outfits. Denim that fits slim, but isn't too tight, her coat perfectly fit on the small side, his colorful madras-esque plaid button down and colorful cardigan. In an understated way, they look great head-to-toe.

Lucia and Tricia - Dolores Street, SF

luciatricia
Lucia: "Rastafarian inspires my style, only because I just saw that Andy Samberg video and it's funny."
Tricia: "Bohemian chic inspires my style."

Really different styles, but I like the patterns on both their dresses. I'm not usually one for tie-dyed, but I think Lucia has done a great job of elevating it as just a pattern on her tank dress (despite her quote). And Tricia looks great in her paisley dress and gold gladiators.
luciatricia_closeup

Flip-flops and gladiators, it's what rules (along with Converse) the streets of the Mission this summer. (Sort of want to put summer in quotes because it's been chilly of late, but today nice sunshine!)

Update: Was asked in comments to include the video, but as SNL doesn't allow youtube or vimeo videos (as far as I could find with a 10 minute search), here is the link from Hulu.

Fancy and Drew - Dolores Street, SF

fancy_drew
Fancy: "My style, 1930s to 1950s clothing catalogs, like Sears. And old French movies from the 50s."
Drew: "I wanted to be warmer today, actually, so. But in general, my style, I'm a big fan of the 30s and 40s. I like the idea of something classic, but somewhat subversive, so twisting it and making it my own."

Fancy and Drew, lovely ladies dressing up in a different era. I used to be into parasols, but since I can't manage umbrellas very well (losing and forgetting them all the time), my theoretical idea to use a parasol was as far as I got. I do admire those who can pull off a look that takes extra care, so my hat (if I were wearing one) would be tipped to Fancy and Drew's superior patience for various fashion accoutrements. Cheers ladies, cheers.

Andy - Dolores Street, SF

andy"I guess I just wear things that I think are fun, easy to wear and a little bit retro."

It was a moment of luck and wind (that which I normally curse) that I got this shot of her dress pouffing out as the dressmaker who made it intended. I like that she wears her clothes casually, even if this dress is of a definite time and place, she doesn't look out of time in it. Also, it fits remarkably well for being a vintage piece.

Thuy - Dolores Street, SF

thuy"I'm a teacher, so definitely clothes that are comfortable and clothes that are youthful. Also my friends, I have a couple of friends and they inspire my fashion style."

Thuy is wearing a lovely embroidered dress (I'd guess it is Mexican-style), but maybe we can be safe and just say it is folk-style. The dress is a perfect mini-dress length of 3-4 inches above her knees. She is 70s nostalgia and modern aesthetics all rolled into one.

Her accessories (particularly her watch) are highly covetable.

Michael - Dolores Street, SF

"I was getting myself suitable for the weather in San Francisco since you never know when it's gonna turn. So, I thought I'd wear something that was layered."

Men dressing colorfully is a rare sight, I'm particularly impressed that Michael limited the black in his outfit. Go Michael!

Jeffrey and Ava - Dolores Street, SF (Quick Shots)

Let me count the ways...

Jeffrey and Ava were on their way to attend to some urgent business, so I was only able to get these quick shots before they had to leave, but wow. Wow! Sometimes I wear leather vintage skirts, but I can learn a lot from Ava on self styling.

Laura- Dolores Street, SF

"Mostly everything I have is from a thrift store. I like bright colors and I like A-lines because I have big hips."

Beyond liking her floral dress, I like her hair and her sunglasses and how well she wears this all together. I just like her style.

Nina - Dolores Street, SF

Nina is really great at layering knits, she does it here and she's done it before. I like how she has a definable aesthetic that is San Francisco weather appropriate, yet looks unique.

Paris - Dolores Street, SF

"Zen. Harputs Market."

When I ran into Paris, she just came from the SF Zen Center, she looked so effervescent. I have a crush on her unitard(?) that she mentioned was purchased from the inspiring Harputs Market.

Sarah and Josh - Dolores Street, SF

Sarah: "Only thing in our closets that weren't that dirty." [Laughter.]
Josh: "I'd say the same thing. These are the only clothes I own."

I like how she wears a sweater under her cotton sun dress. Also? Big fan of couples who dress in the same color tones.

Sarina and Johnny - Dolores Street, SF

Sarina: "Today it was the weather. I wanted to mimic it a little."
Johnny: "Grade school."

I've taken a photo of Sarina before. She's got a great eye for dresses. And Johnny, one has got to appreciate humor in dressing (click on the photo to read his t-shirt).

A closer look at her covet-worthy red leather obi belt.
