"I guess I like to be comfortable and ... I don't really know. I just threw it on."

Something very Ali McGraw in Love Story about her trench and striped turtleneck. The addition of the vintage fur collar is a nice touch.

"The weather. I knew it was gonna rain today, so I wanted something with a hood."

That tucked in floral scarf, those cerulean jeans, that wind defying jacket with hood - perfect.

"I actually moved here from New York (where I used to work in an art gallery) and I just developed this style, I don't where it originates from."

Black and white with cardigan and tie. Check out how he pulls his cuffs out and rolls them onto the wristband of his cardi.

Tiffany - Valencia Street, SF

tharker
Tiffany has some great boots. I also like the relaxed preppy-ness of her knit vest, oversize white shirt, and black skirt.

"I don't know what inspires my style."

Simple v-neck knit gray dress (the new black) and boots. Exactly right.

Simon - Valencia Street, SF

simon
"It's a couple of things. I think, first of all, my age probably. I think I dress more classy, not too young anymore, so in that frame... My grandparents probably inspire my style, weirdly enough. Not so much, I don't read fashion magazines or anything. I don't know, I just like classy things."

So, what shall we conclude about the similarity of dress between Simon and Nick? Is it a zeitgeist we're observing? Is this a trend? Or are there just an excess of pea coats floating around vintage and second hand stores in the Mission? Whatever it is, I'm glad to peer at pea coated individuals this fall and winter.

Domonique - Valencia Street, SF

dominique3

Domonique is a fierce force to be reckoned with. I think it was 10:30am when I ran into her and was impressed with the fact she was wearing faux leopard print so early in the day. (I was wearing taffeta.)

Domonique will be showing her designer wares at the next Chillin' Productions Event. Check it out on December 5th if you're in SF.

Libby - Valencia Street, SF

libbyn3
Libby has been on fashionist a handful of times.

She has a way of dressing that makes me re-evaluate what I'm wearing when I run into her because she always looks perfectly suited to whatever her current task calls for. Right here, she's on the way to work at a coffee shop. You see what I mean right? That oversize white shirt with those jeans? That robust one earring to add bling? She's killing it.

Also? Tapestry print flats. So cute.

Today's theme is, pretty obviously, denim.

Maggie - Valencia Street, SF

"Serendipity and what I come across. I like retro things and I tend to dress in costume according to how I feel that day. I'll get up and kind of change my look based on if I want to be comfortable or feel like naughty secretary day."

Hey, it's the very stylish and lifelist-fulfilling/ envy producing Maggie! (Though, I admit it's hard to not root for all the awesome things she gets to do because Maggie's enthusiasm for the creative and life affirming is phenomenal. Her excitement for all things creative and awesome is infectious.) Maggie is wearing a gorgeous vintage skirt, whose color combination reminds me of the folk skirts of Sapa. Paired with that green knit top, she looks perfect for a fall day in San Francisco.

And yes, Maggie's been on the site before and she's contributed in the past. She's even proven that she looks great when she's sick.

Lovely blue pointy flats. When I complimented her on them, Maggie conspiratorially whispered, "They're from Target."

Phoebe - Valencia Street, SF

phoebe3

Local filmmaker Phoebe Tooke is sporting a polyester 80s frock that would work well in the office secretary pool. I like how the dress looks so proper, but the Dr. Scholl's [corrected per comments - thanks.] are slightly unexpected and make it a bit casual.

Tiffany's great trench coat (yes, it's cold enough in SF for a trench) looks lovely over her chambray shirt.

A walking Mondrian is comforting sometimes. And! A delight for the eyes when the day is gloomy.

"Oh, this outfit? Well my younger sister gave it to me and it's vintage. And she got it for 10 cents and I just thought it was really cute. It reminds me of... What's that girl from Gilligan's Island [Maryanne? - ed], Marianne - yeah."

I like her cute eyelet dress, especially with that front ruffle, it has nice simple lines.

Sean - Valencia Street, SF

sean
"I really like bell bottom jeans and I used to really have a thing for blazers, I guess I still wear blazers. this one is really old, but I had the wooden buttons put on."

I love Sean's proportions, the skinny-fit pin-striped jacket with the small lapels; his bell-bottoms that fit perfectly (not too tight); his bulbous shoes; and his low green v-neck. I also like that he made these specific sartorial choices, like the badges on his lapel and how he went somewhere to change the buttons on his jacket to wooden ones. It's always the little things that make an outfit stand out.

"It's my great aunt's dress."

Hourglass figure in a perfect madras plaid waist-cinching dress. I love when people wear colorful clothes that fit them well.

Well-worn white moccasins make her style look that much more effortless.
