Tina and Chase - Project, Las Vegas

tinachase
Tina: "I don't know."
Chase: "Music, a little bit of skate. It's vintage (the t-shirt), I don't know anything about football or the team."

I like how they both combined unexpected elements for an amped-up day look. Her asymmetrical haircut, sequin blouse, and booties are tempered by her denim jeans and cheery yellow handbag. His sport's team shirt is dressed up by the slight shimmer in his cardigan mixed-up with the unexpectedly preppy deck shoes.

Yumi and Takeshi - Project, Las Vegas

yumitakeshi

Sometimes it's all about the attitude. These two have that in spades. I am also into interesting text on clothing. And sometimes, sometimes I enjoy the posturing that goes hand in hand with aspects of stylized hip hop fashion.

Aaron and Kana - Magic Marketplace, Las Vegas

Aaron: "What inspires me is Euro fashion, you know Rock'n'roll. I like black. I like leather. That's all. I like fur, I don't have fur on me... I like edgy."
Kana: "My fashion look is black lace mixed up with leather."

Badass in shades of black creating depth with different textures.

Bryan - Magic Marketplace, Las Vegas

bryanmm"It's easy."

I like how Bryan wears clothes that both fit well and are drapey at the same time. He plays well with proportions in the same outfit, he's also wearing the very on-trend color olive.

Great rings! The left one (on his right hand) is a two-finger Surface to Air ring of the outline of the US.

Toshiyuki - Magic Marketplace, Las Vegas

toshiyuki

Heard the Urkel preppy look was hot. Toshiyuki has taken it further (and is killing it) with the Urkel Run DMC look.

Al - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

al"I buy clothes that fit my body."

I'm often impressed by very bright colors worn together, especially on young guys who tend towards wearing conservative blues, blacks, and khakis.

Jef - Precita Park, SF

jef
"Laziness I guess. Monochrome laziness."

I have an affinity for Comme des Garçons, even her creepy Play line. Jef wears it the same way I imagine Kawakubo would, monochromatically casual.

Abe - Precita Park, SF

abe"I like buying vintage clothes a lot. And usually when I buy second hand I like pieces that normally people wouldn't get. I always get unique things when I thrift shop."

I like that Abe's military jacket, olive green beanie, and gray denim are made of fabrics that bring to mind every day worker uniforms: wool, wool knit and denim. It's also a bit of color blocking with muted grayed out color.

A nicer version of the de rigeur Converse seen in the Mission, these are leather.

James - Precita Park, SF

jamespp"It's a vintage-retro style. I wanted to wear a chunky sweater during the winter. And now it's the first warm Sunday, so I added the shorts."

Liking the silhouette of his sweater that reminds me ever so slightly of a smoking jacket. Those slim cut shorts that stops just above the knee? That's a good look.

Chris - 18th Street, SF

chrismoore"I like to combine punk aesthetics with French New Wave."

I like the proportions on Chris: his snug and small pea coat, his jeans, fitting, but not too tight. And I like the novelty that a suitcase is his merse.

Skeet - 18th Street, SF

skeet18

You've seen Skeet before. He's one of my well dressed neighbors (nice blue shirt, white denim) and he plays in the Mindless Things, a garage-y band, which is fortunate since he dresses the part well. This time I left out a shot of his Converse, since he frequently wears them.

Warren and Meryl - South Van Ness Avenue, SF

warrenmeryl
Warren: "Clothes my girlfriend buys for me or clothes that I find."
Meryl: "Unique pieces. I like to rummage and find something interesting. If it's bordering on hideous I might be very interested. I like finding quality items that I can't afford, that are available to me via thrift stores or something. Or I just like something unique or strange."

I love the contrast of couples' or friends dressing. Also, how great is Meryl's blouse? [Answer: So great, it's awesome.] Other cool eye catchers include Meryl's glasses, Warren's pin and Vans.

Brandon - 18th Street, SF

brandon"I'd say it has to do with an outlaw, a nomad on two wheels."

The trappings of the cowboy in a distinctly urban setting done well. He's got the Members Only jacket over a western slim cut shirt, the belt buckle with studded leather belt, and boots that are more construction worker than rodeo.

There is something very nautical about his navy blue blazer paired with white denim. And I dig his gray scarf and gray vest. Also? Pocket square.

Hans - 18th Street, SF

hans
"I don't know. I try to dress appropriately, but try not too be too out there, if that makes any sense. What inspires my style? I don't know. I'm gonna say history."

There is something very Oxford Blues about Hans and how he's wearing his brown leather bomber jacket, chambray shirt and jeans. (See the image below.) This isn't a look I see often and I find it utterly charming.
hans_closeup

Classic Converse would've been just as appropriate in 1984 (though Rob Lowe isn't wearing them in the shot below).
